OPENING RECEPTION APRIL 28TH 6-9PM
Dress Shop Gallery is pleased to present;
A solo exhibition featuring, Emmanuel Limon. “SIN COYOTE”, or “Without a Guide” is a collection of works driven by Emmanuel’s immigration, and memories of the experience.
Emmanuel’s parents braved immigration agents, and hoped for the best as they crossed the border in a baby blue Ford S10 pickup. Coming to the border, Emmanuel was the only one awake apart from his parents. Watching his parents turn pale white with anxiety and doubt as the pickup pulled up to four border patrol agents fully armed with assault rifles and drug sniffing dogs. As they asked for documentation, Emmanuel noticed the collection of confiscated items from previous immigrants; things from bottles of liquor, guns, drugs, electronics, and even fruit. Disregarding friend’s and family's’ concerns with this bold method of crossing, they drove into Texas, sin coyote, with hopes for a better future.
In this exhibition, mild steel has been cut, grinded, etched and bent; manipulations onto an unwilling material. Leather has been molded over AK-47’s, shotguns, and fully automatic glocks.
